Adult Converts to the Catholic Faith

     Anyone interested in becoming a member of the Catholic Church, and particularly a member of Our Lady of Sorrows parish family, will be warmly welcomed. As a welcoming community of faith, we strive to open our doors to any who seek the Lord, and desire to live the Gospel in conformity with the tradition of the Catholic Church.
    
     If you know someone who may be interested in our Church, has shown a desire to join our parish, please refer them to the Pastor. Every year we hold a Journey of Faith Class beginning in mid-September that meets weekly until Easter. In an informal setting, adults who are discerning God’s call to become Catholic meet with a team of catechists to learn about the teachings and practices of our faith. There is no charge for this class. This program of faith development for adults is referred to as R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), and is the way the Church welcomes new adult members. For more information please call the rectory, (351-1600).

    After classes are completed, individuals make a decision to continue with initiation at the Easter Vigil Mass, on Holy Saturday. Those who have not been baptized are Baptized into the Catholic Church, receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, and are invited to share the Eucharist with us for the first time. Those who are validly baptized in another Christian Church are not re-baptized, but make a Profession of Faith in the Catholic Church and are received into full communion, Confirmed, and receive the Eucharist. The Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist complete our initiation as full members of the faith.
